Caitlin Clark was integral to Team USA’s success at the recently concluded FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup. This marked the Indiana Fever star’s first senior national team World Cup gold medal, and the USA’s fifth straight.
The Americans sent a team that consisted of some of the best WNBA players today. Clark joined the likes of Chelsea Gray, Kahleah Copper, Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier, to name a few.
Stewart, in particular, stood out as Team USA’s best player in the World Cup. In the championship game, the New York Liberty star scored a game-high 22 points on 7-of-10 shooting and grabbed 10 rebounds. She was named the tournament MVP after averaging 12.8 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.8 assists across six games.
Clark singled out Stewart during her media availability session on Thursday. The Fever star said that she learned a lot from the two-time WNBA MVP.
“It was really fun to be around Stewie,”
“I think that was her fourth or her fifth now, so she’s tied with Sue Bird for most World Cup titles.”
The 6-foot guard also shared what she picked up from Stewart during their time with Team USA.
“Just her leadership and her calming presence,” Clark continued. “… Just watching the way she operates and the preparation that goes into those games.”
The three-time WNBA All-Star will look to apply what she learned now that she’s back with the Fever. The WNBA season is in its final stretch, and Indiana has only four games left in the regular season.
Clark and Co. are currently playing the Toronto Tempo on the road.
