After their beautiful loss by the hands of Wisconsin, it is protected to say nobody fairly is aware of what to anticipate from right here on out for the Nittany Lions. Only a yr faraway from an unbelievable tailspin, one other surprising loss with a brand new look squad places them in a really uncommon place. Nevertheless, in line with USA Right now, Penn State might as effectively simply throw within the towel already. In accordance with Jordan Mendoza, the Nittany Lions may very well be frauds as they head into the enamel of their Massive Ten schedule.

“Issues aren’t so completely happy in Joyful Valley anymore. Whereas Matt Campbell looks like the suitable man in cost at Penn State, it is vital to recollect he nonetheless has methods to go earlier than its elite” Mendoza wrote. Keep in mind, nearly all of the roster that got here from Iowa State went simply 5-4 in convention play final season. It isn’t a brilliant loaded crew, and it received uncovered as such within the first sport towards a Energy convention opponent”.

What helps Mendoza’s assertion is not simply the larger image of the loss. It is the stats that talk for themselves. Over three weeks previous to the Wisconsin sport, Rocco Becht performed stellar soccer, throwing no interceptions and 9 touchdowns. Nevertheless, in his first actual take a look at towards Massive Ten expertise, he floundered, solely finishing 41 % of his throws, throwing his first choose of the season, and recorded no passing touchdowns. Actually, within the switch heavy extensive receiver room, no receiver topped 70 yards within the absence of holdover Koby Howard.

Maybe Penn State followers will chalk up that blip to irony, however the working sport was no higher both. Every week after shredding Buffalo on the bottom with 295 yards, they solely had 119 mixed within the Wisconsin sport, averaging a putrid 3.3 yards per carry.

The overwhelmingly evident indicators reared their ugly heads on Saturday and now in consequence there’s doubt surrounding this crew. With dates towards USC and Michigan approaching quick, can this Nittany Lions crew show they don’t seem to be like final yr’s? Or will they equally succumb to the physicality of the Massive Ten?
