USA TODAY’s Bob Nightengale wrote that following current gross sales of the Los Angeles Angels and San Diego Padres, the Cincinnati Reds could possibly be subsequent.
“Rival homeowners predict that the Cincinnati Reds could possibly be the subsequent MLB group bought,” Nightengale wrote Sept. 8. “Actually, Bob Castellini will make a cool revenue if he does put them on the block, buying the franchise for $270 million in 2006. It is now price about $1.6 billion.”
Following a February vote by MLB homeowners, possession of the Reds was transferred from Bob Castellini to his son, Phil Castellini, who retained his titles as president and chief government officer of the group.
Bob Castellini, who turns 85 later this month, first turned principal proprietor and chief government officer of the group in January 2006. He bought 70 p.c of the membership from Carl Lindner Jr. for $270 million.
