Being chosen to put on that USA jersey and to characterize your nation on the Paralympics is an amazing honor and brings an immense feeling of satisfaction and patriotism. After the occasions of 9/11, these feelings skyrocketed.

I painted my goalie masks with a 9/11-inspired design that featured twisted metallic, a torn American flag and the USA Hockey brand. For me, it was a strong reminder of what our nation had endured and the resilience we had proven within the aftermath.

We rallied round one thing larger than ourselves, which strengthened our bond as a crew and fueled our dedication to characterize our nation with satisfaction.
